Lovima is a desogestrel contraceptive tablet which is now avalible to buy without a prescription.
Its a daily tablet (75mcg) and has been reclassified from a prescription only medicine to a pharmacy medicine meaning you can now buy it without the need for a prescription.
Lovima 75mcg tablets are a type of progestogen-only pill (POP) containing desogestrel indicated for oral contraception for women of childbearing age. Desogestrel is the most common progestogen-only contraception and has shown to be 99% effective at preventing preganncy when used optimally.
The launch of Lovima enables women to buy a contraceptive pill from the pharmacy, after answring a few questions about thier health online before purchase. You don’t need to make an appointment to see your doctor or family planning clinic to get a prescription.
In contrast to the combined pill (containing both oestrogen and progestogen), Lovima can be used by women who are breastfeeding.
No blood pressure check is required before taking Lovima. Lovima may be taken whilst breastfeeding which may not be possible with other contraceptive pills.
With Lovima, you’re in charge of your contraception choice.
ONE tablet taken orally. Must be taken at the same time everyday, always ebsure there is a 24 hour interval between the two tablets.
First tablet should be taken on day 1 of menstrual bleeding, can ber started on days 2-5, but barrier method recommended for first 7 days of tablet-taking. Thereafter one tablet daily (continuously) without taking any notice of possible bleeding.
When pack is finished, a new pack should be started directly a day after the previous one.

You may have some vaginal bleeding during the use of Lovima, but you must continue to take your pills as normal.

Room temperature
The active substance is desogestrel.
Each film-coated tablet contains 75 microgram desogestrel.
The other ingredients are alpha-tocopherol; maize starch; povidone; stearic acid; hypromellose; macrogol 400; titanium dioxide (E 171); soyabean oil, silica, colloidal hydrated, stearic acid, titanium dioxide and polyethylene glycol.
