Tetralysal is an oral medication that belongs to the family of antibiotic known as a tetracycline antibiotic. It is often prescribed when over-the-counter acne treatments have proven ineffective.
The active ingredient in Tetralysal is lymecycline which belongs to a group of medicines called tetracyclines.
Tetralysal can be used for the treatment of many other infections caused by bacteria. Ask your doctor if you are not sure why he prescribed this medication.
How does Tetralysal work?
Tetralysal works by treating skin infections and inflammations caused by bacteria by preventing the bacteria from producing proteins that allow them to reproduce and grow. This essentially kills the bacteria from your skin.
What are benefits of using Tetralysal?
Tetralysal is an effective treatment for acne where over-the-counter acne medications did not work. It is effective in depriving the bacteria that cause acne of proteins that are essential for their reproduction and growth, essentially killing the bacteria from your skin.
Take one capsule daily.
For treating acne, you will normally need to take Tetralysal for at least 8 weeks continuously.
Treatment should be assessed after 3 months to determine whether it has been effective.
If your treatment has been effective, you can continue to take Tetralysal for another 3 months where you should see further improvement.
If there has been no improvement in your acne, you should stop taking Tetralysal and consider a different acne treatment.
Tetralysal capsules can cause side effects including:
Nausea & vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach ache, visual disturbances and dizziness. In rare cases, Tetralysal can also cause fungal infections such as thrush, skin reactions, photosensitivity, colitis and pancreatitis.
